Online shopping has become the new normal since quite some time ago and the global pandemic only solidified the need for it. We’ve been witnessing the remarkable growth of these online marketplaces everywhere around the world, especially in Singapore. Here are the top 5 e-Commerce in Singapore from 2020 to 2021 based on their online presence and performance.
#5 - Zalora, EZBuy, Castlery
The triumvirate of Zalora, EZBuy, and Castlery has been taking turns to be on the 5th place, according to iPrice.
Zalora, founded in 2010 and owned by Global Fashion Group, is an e-Commerce specializing in fashion, shoes, accessories, and beauty. Their headquarter is in Singapore and has been quite active in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Brunei. By Q1 2020, Zalora dominated the 5th place with 1.1 million monthly web visits and 200+ employees.
EZBuy, also founded in 2010, had taken over the 5th spot for a year since Q2 2020 (1.6 million web visits, and around 49 employees) until Q2 2021 (1.1 million web visits, and 58 employees). The e-Commerce is headquartered in Singapore (active in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand), and specializes in fashion for both men & women, accessories, home furniture, gadgets & electronics, and goods for outdoor activities.
Castlery, the Sydney-based e-Commerce founded in 2013 (quite active in Singapore and US as well), took over EZBuy’s position in Q3 2021. The online marketplace that provides furniture with bespoke designs had 1.2 million web visits, and around 70+ employees during this time.
#4 - Qoo10
Founded in 2010, and formerly known as Gmarket; Qoo10 has landed on the 4th place since Q4 2020. Similar to EZBuy, Qoo10 has a wide range of various products from many merchants in Singapore. In Q1 2020, Qoo10 has around 6 million web visits monthly and 100+ employees, and in Q3 2021, it has only 3.5 million web visits and around 230 employees.
Qoo10 area of service includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan.
#3 - Amazon Singapore
Amazon Singapore started out on the 4th spot in Q1 2020, with 2.8 million web visits monthly. It rose to the 3rd place in Q4 2020 with 6.8 million web visits and around 2,000 employees. However, by Q3 2021, Amazon Singapore only has around 4.7 million web visits, and 1,700 employees.
#2 - Lazada Singapore
Getting closer to number one, Lazada Singapore has managed to secure the 2nd place since Q2 2020 until now. It generated around 7.7 million web visits during those time, and now it manages to hold on average 8.6 million web visits. Lazada was founded in 2012 and owned by Alibaba Group. The Singapore-based e-Commerce has a wide range of merchants and product collection, quite similar like Qoo10 and EZBuy.
#1 - Shopee Singapore
Finally, the top soaring e-Commerce between 2020-2021 falls to the one and only Shopee Singapore. It started on the 3rd place in Q1 2020, with 5.9 million web visits (but rank no.1 on app downloads and installs, both for AppStore and PlayStore). At that time, its employees were still around 1,000. By Q2 2020, Shopee already beaten both Lazada and Qoo10, took the 1st spot and never letting it go until now. As per Q3 2021, Shopee has on average 14.4 million web visits and around 3,200 employees.
Shopee was founded in 2015, by Sea Group (formerly known as Garena), with headquarter in Singapore. Last year, Shopee was considered as the largest e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia, with average 340 million web visits monthly.
